I have several digestive health issues which respond best to natural supplements. One issue is that I produce enough HCl (stomach acid), but the cascade that usually results in Pepsin production is diminished for me. Usually HCl helps trigger pepsin production, but not for me. The challenge: every other product out there that provides Pepsin, provides it in combination with HCl.
For the few individuals who do NOT need HCl (in fact it can be bad for us!) but need Pepsin, this is a real problem. Standard Process' Okra Pepsin is, to the best of my knowledge, the ONLY product out there that provides JUST PEPSIN. It's naturally derived and has not caused any side effects for me. I am very happy with the product. Makes it possible for me to eat, digest well, actually get energy from my food, and have fewer digestive problems 'down the line.'
I have several major and minor food allergies. I've noticed I can get away with exposure to some of the mild allergens when I take Okra Pepsin with the meal; I'll have little to no allergic reaction. This has freed me up to eat out and eat with friends more often!
