I was first clued in to this product by a friend, who said the filters took quite a bit of the 'gunk' out of each cigarette. I was intrigued enough to buy a package of the disposable filters -- the clear ones, because I wanted to see if he was right. He was. Using the clear filters, you get a pretty impressive (and depressing) picture of how much tar and whatever else the filter is removing. It didn't take long to convince me how effective the filter is. It does remove some of the "taste" of the cigarette, but I preferred less "taste" in trade for less gunk. I don't know if the manufacturer would necessarily appreciate this, but seeing what the filters were pulling out of the cigarettes got me started on the road to quitting tobacco (which began in earnest once I'd switched to using "e-cigarettes").
