You can't beat the value for this scale. You can buy 2 or 3 of these for the price of one typical BMI calculating scale. The only complaint I had read before purchasing this item was the difficulty in its programming and taking the Body Mass calculation. I say, if you have a high school diploma and know how to program a VCR, you should be able to figure it out just fine.
You really do need to have your feet wet to do the BMI calcs. Weighing yourself after a shower would be the perfect time.
The top panel comes out to act as a remote device. You could mount it on the wall of your bathroom if you wished (it comes with the hardware). However, I did not see the sense in doing so. The buttons are large enough to push with your toe and the screen is large enough to read if you just take a look down. However, if your gut obstructs the view of the readout, then the detachable part comes in handy.
