I have a coaching practice and was a teaching fellow in physiology. I have also worked as a biochemist and I currently do workshops and lectures on biofeedback.
I temperature biofeedback is a very low cost form or feedback that is a good starting point for doing biofeedback and seeing the physiological correlates in the body, in this case changes in skin temperature.
Unlike other parts of the body, the hands don't have parasympathetic innervation and therefore, anxiety is immediately reflected in both skin conductance (fast) and skin temperature (more slowly).
This device is very useful for combining with meditation and other relax exercises to measure the effect and make it visible. This reinforces what is working and helps you to avoid what is not. It is particularly useful for work with guided imagery.
I have seen this item offered at a lower cost in other places. However, I don't think this is an unreasonable cost for a fairly rugged, portable unit that measure down to a tenth of a degree. If you have issues relaxing, get it along with a meditation CD. There are a number of resources along these lines on my listmania lists that you might find interesting. Most of these I have also reviewed.
