As a morbidly obese man I often struggle to do most of life's simplest tasks. Like walking. And breathing. So, when my tremendous weight eventually caused me to be bed-ridden 100% of the time, I knew that my life of convenience was over.
Thanks to some supportive friends who would bring me food everyday it wasn't long before I had completely adapted to my new home bound lifestyle. But there were still a few problems.
My grabbing stick was fine for helping me pick up French fries off of the floor, or for changing the channel on the TV, but turning a light switch was proving to be a challenge. There were many nights when I'd have to eat my gallon of ice cream in total darkness.
One of my neighbors, who stops by every day to make sure I haven't died, knew about my light switch problem and offered a suggestion:
THE CLAPPER!
I can't believe I'd never heard of this thing until now. All you have to do is plug it into any standard light socket (my neighbor did this for me), plug in any household appliances into the device (my neighbor had to do this for me, too), and then that household appliance is now activated by the sound of my hands clapping together. The best part about The Clapper is that I can turn two appliances on and off with just one of these handy devices.
It took me awhile to figure out the timing of the claps (The Clapper is very sensitive), but fortunately I need to take a break after each clap to catch my breath, so the necessary pause between claps works out.
Just remember when using The Clapper that sequence is more important than volume, which is good because my meaty hands have trouble producing a really loud clap.
I wouldn't recommend the health issues, boredom or infected bedsores that come with being a bed-ridden fat man, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Clapper to anyone who doesn't like to (or can't) stand up and turn on a light switch.

Update: after using it for a week I am going to have to unplug it. It was purchased for the tv-rec room, and it just doesn't work there. If any noises on the tv are in the same cadence as its activation stimulus it will turn off. It didn't happen just once; it happened frequently. I was considering getting another for my bedroom, but I don't want it coming on every time I turn over to the other side. Not so convenient after all I'm afraid. New rating: 2 stars, and that's generous.

I needed a way to turn on the light before I walked halfway into the tv-rec room to reach the lamp and this does the job. I have only had it a week, but I love its convenience. It took me a couple of days to get the timing right, but now it works with hardly ever a miss. It is in a position where the red light is visible from the entryway and that helped me get the pattern. As soon as I see the red light respond to the first clap I immediately clap again. That gives the correct pause between claps. It is designed to prevent unintentional activation, and it doesn't work if the second clap is too soon or too late.

I know you people like to gab gab and gab about how sensitive it is. But the truth is you people are lazy and ignorant on how to use it. Also I will ask, why did you buy it if everyone doesnt like it. I bought one myself, and i will say it was sensitive at first, but you learn how to use it effeciently. Get off your couch, turn on the light and sit back down if you dont want the clapper. Maybe it will give you more time for the daily soap opera and popcorn. And whoever said it was a waste of electricity and that it will significantly raise your bill ... well i dont even have to say it. I really like the clapper and it has lasted me 4 years. Also I praise the people who actually know how to set the sensitivity and also being able to do the simple task of setting a dial to home or away. Thanks! The Clapper is a useful item for when you are entering your house and don't have a lightswitch nearby. Those of you who do not have this problem may not understand, but those of you that do not have one handy will LOVE this item! I bought The Clapper years ago, after they marketed the two-item model that will work with two separate lights. I found it to be most helpful, and if there were ever sounds loud enough to turn it on, I would have wanted to know about it anyway, so I was not disturbed by an errant turning on of a light. I feel that The Clapper is not only a convenient tool, but it could serve as a deterrent to would-be thieves, if they end up causing it to trigger!Customer Review: Works great for me !

I recently purchased the Clapper localy. I am disabled and use a walker to get around my apartment. It's difficult for me to reach my floor lamp to turn it on or off so I decided to give the clapper a shot. I set the sensitivity wheel to the middle, plugged in my lamp to the outlet w the 2 claps(there's an outlet for 3 claps too). I clapped twice and the lamp shut off...2 claps and it turned on..great!. I have cmt a form of muscular dystrophy and if I can do it, it should be a breeze for almost anyone. I was afraid the noise from my tv would set it on or off but that hasn't happened yet. I think this is an excellent product (so far).
