I got this for my house rabbit who has had an infection and between that and the antibiotics has been cold a lot. After reading in the reviews about the crinkling sound, I thought for sure she wouldn't set foot on it because bunnies are suspicious of just about anything! But she figured out the first day that she was warmer while sitting on it and after that I've found her often either stretched out or in "loaf" position on it. She seems to like the softness as well as the warmth. The best part is that her partner, who loves to dig, tear up, or bunch up any mats I put down for her, hasn't been able to make a dent in this one. The faux fur won't yield to his claws and doesn't even look disturbed. And because of the three layers of thickness, when he tries to bunch it up, it just flops flat again. A big concern with mats for bunnies is the danger that they might chew and ingest the material, leading to a stomach blockage. This one is either thick enough or fuzzy enough that we haven't run into that problem. The fleece baby blankets that they also love, on the other hand, are full of holes (luckily they don't eat those, just chew).
My sick girl peed on the mat just once, and the mat came out of the wash looking like new. She hasn't had any "accidents" on it since then (maybe she just wanted the new smell gone!). I got the deep blue and it has a very stylish look and upscale feel. The 18-1/2 x 22 inch size was just perfect for my 10-pound bunny. When I bought it, it was around ten bucks, and if the price drops down to that again, I'll get more for my other bunnies!
Update 1/15/2011: The mat is still looking like new, despite my washing it several times because my bunnies have decided that it is too comfy to get up and go to the litter box when they need to pee! I just noticed recently that the label says not to tumble dry, but I have been and it doesn't seem to hurt it. It is becoming softer through the washings, so it's a little more "bunchable" by my digging bunny. He has also managed to make one small hole in the outer fur layer after repeated digging over the last month, but it is barely noticeable. I'm considering getting another mat so I can keep a fresh one out while the other is in the wash.
