I never used a heating pad much, but after knee replacement surgery I encountered lower back problems. My physical therapist recommended using moist heat on the affected area, and he recommended the Thermophore pad as that is what he used on his patients. I ordered one - the one with the spring loaded "on/off" switch - the pad is about 14" x 14?" inches, and I have been very happy with it as it relieves my back pain, and IMO is better than than taking medication.
