And I'm pleased to report that with the old standby, Tide laundry detergent, we DO get our expectations met (or exceeded.)
I'm old enough to recall the time when people bought one of two powdered detergents: people with babies bought Dreft Powder Detergent, Case Pack, Four 40-Load Boxes (160-Loads) because it made baby's clothes soft (and we actually washed cloth diapers back then!), and pretty much everyone else bought Oxydol which was a national (and of good-quality) detergent.
It seemed as if Tide wiped out most of the competition overnight -- how did they do it? Tide executives were on the front line of period marketing. They knew that (mostly) women would not go for a second quality product regardless of how cheap it was -- so Tide made a first-class product and charged appropriately for it. Secondly, they were one of the first companies which seized upon the fact that people were motivated by the color of the packaging. Tide had a new look and the color was initially its chief appeal. This seems widely-known nowadays but, back then, this was an innovative idea.
In any case, Tide still manhandles the laundry detergent market share. Others have tried to emulate their look such as Era 2x Ultra Era 64 loads, 100.0-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 4) but most folks are on to this trick. Tide really does deliver the goods as it always has -- one's clothes come clean and they smell great, using the recommended amount of detergent.
What does it all come down to? Price per load. With Tide, which costs a little more than most detergents, you will get your money's worth. You can buy much cheaper detergents at the dollar store but you'll likely be disappointed with the results. I hate to sound like a hackneyed television commercial but Tide is like Energizer E91BP-16H Max AA Alkaline Battery (16 Pack) or Charmin Ultra Soft 9 Large Rolls, 143 2-Ply Sheets per Roll (Pack of 4) -- its reputation is of the First Water and this is the result of years of Tide dependability.
This particular packaging will save you some space in your laundry area -- it's a x2 liquid concentrate (a no-brainer to use) and the easy-open plastic bottles fit nicely on about any shelf or in a cabinet.
I have little more to say beyond noting that this is a fine product as it always has been -- highly recommended.
