This comes in gel packs - a lot like the dishwash gel packs, if you've used those and are a fan of those. I am. Gel packs are easy to just toss in, which is why I like them, because I'm lazy. That admitted, if you ever get a wet hand and are too lazy to dry it off, and you reach in a bag....beware, you can ruin the whole bag because the outer 'skins' dissolve fairly easy if you ever get them wet. Likewise, If you are in the deep south, where there's a lot of humidity, and your laundry room is un-airconditioned, you may want to keep these elsewhere, as I've had these gel packs stick together when left out in the laundry room in Georgia.
Gel pack issues aside, the stain booster is very easy and I loved the smell. It left my laundry smelling extra fresh and didn't conflict with my cheap highly scented laundry detergent's fragrance.
I had caught a sale of cheaper detergent so that is what I had on hand that I used this with. My son had an accident and bled on his favorite yellow Sponge-Bob shirt, which is getting too small, so I took the chance to test the blood stain fighting power of this Tide product. The shirt came out fabulous, using cheap detergent only with absolutely NO pretreatment. There was no evidence of blood on the shirt- I used cold water wash with no pre-rinse or anything.
For my second test, I threw some totally nasty dish clothes in that had grease all over them. At one time they were white. They cleaned up very well also, with no grease stains on them, but they did not appear to have been bleached. (I did not add bleach.) Still, they were brown before washing and looked garbage pail ready. I'm sure with bleach they would have looked new. Again, I used super cheap detergent, cold water, and the Tide Stain Packs and nothing else and had much better than average results.
I noticed this product also works well on red mud, as long as it hasn't been set in by previous washes. I will keep it around to boost my cheaper detergent! It works much better than the oxygen based powder that I've been using.
To sum up - I had positive experiences with easily removing blood, grease and oil, and red mud stains. I'd recommend not keeping it in a humid environment since it is in gel pack form.
