Customer Reviews of Time Timer, 8 InchCustomer Review: time timer review Summary: 4 Stars
I love this product's visual help to keep track of time. I wish it had a longer and louder bell to signal the end and I wish the on/off switch was mor prominant.
Customer Review: good/bad Summary: 3 Stars
This is an excellent concept and very helpful for children of all ages/abilities because it is visual and shows a better "slice" of how much time is left. While it's popular with SN kids, I bought it for use with transitioning or timed activities for my typical children. We had been using a regular kitchen timer which worked, but there were still some surprises.
This works like a charm and is a great idea. However it's the only game in town, it's way too expensive for the piece of crap that it is. It is NOT something you should let a child operate. Ours sits on a high shelf where they can see it but not touch. It's maddening how how expensive this is, how cheaply this is made and even more maddening that there's no other competition. But, if you go into that knowing this you will be mostly happy.
I have had mine for several months and the battery is consistently dies after only using it a handful of times. There is no way to even know it's working unless you sit and watch it for a minute to make sure it's going to work (even then, all bets are off.) You can not set it for a full hour or it will get hung up on itself and not time.. you have to set it for 54 minutes or so in order to guarantee the plastic nub is going to clear the cutaway portion.
I will keep this for timed activities, but for other tasks where I give my kid a timer and tell them to come back in X minutes, I will let them have a kitchen timer.. at least those are cheap.
Customer Review: Good for the classroom Summary: 3 Stars
This timer is a great visual aid for the classroom. The sound is NOT very loud - it can barely be heard in the back of the room.
Customer Review: Great concept, but product not sturdy. Summary: 2 Stars
I agree with Laura, this product is not sturdy. We received one as a gift for my son. A great concept! But it didn't last long. He dropped it and the whole thing fell apart. The face is open (there is no cover), and the whole thing is made of materials that are just not heavy, strong, or durable. We were willing to get a replacement until we saw the pricing. There is no reason why this product should be so expensive, and it's not worth the price for the quality of the product, in my opinion.
Customer Review: Flimsy and broke almost immediately, also not loud enough Summary: 1 Stars
As soon as this timer arrived I didn't think it would last, and I was right. Currently we use a big, old loud bell kitchen timer to limit my son's TV and computer time. I wanted to try a visual timer as I heard it was great for kids on the Autism spectrum as they don't really understand the concept of time passing. I chose this one because it also had an audible alarm so he would hear it if he was concentrating on something else. Right out of the box the thing felt so light and cheap I couldn't imagine letting my 3.5 year old touch it. Basically the red part that shows time passing is a thin piece of plastic you dial around the clock part and the alarm is so quiet it might as well not be there. You certainly can't hear it from another room-it's just a tiny "beep beep". Still, I'd heard great things so I gave it a try. My son mostly ignored it, but the thing still broke when he wasn't even playing with it. The flimsly red thing kept coming off line and getting stuck. Within a week it stopped counting down the minutes, but would just beep for no reason. I had it sitting on my dresser and I just gave up on when my son found it and promptly ripped the red part right in half (the plastic was that thin and flimsy that he ripped it like a candy wrapper.) Now I'm sure I can't return it and it was a huge waste of money. Good concept, but they need to make a stronger product, especially if it's going to be anywhere near a kid.
