I've been using electric blankets nearly all my life. Using hot water bottles never crossed my mind until I went on safari in July. The winter nights in Kenya can get a bit chilly, mid 50's or so, and even the luxury camps do not have heat. To make up for this they use hot water bottles and I was surprised to find they made the bed quite toasty! Upon returning to the states I purchased 2 of these clear bottles for myself. I don't know enough about hot water bottles to say if these are better than others. As it isn't winter yet here in New England these bottles haven't been given a proper workout but they seem very well made, the transparency makes it easy to see just how much water you've added without going through the bother of measuring and a few test runs have shown they hold the heat very well. Combined with flannel sheets and a nice goose down comforter I may be able to retire the electric blanket. Since I have a gas stove I will also be able to use them during the inevitable winter power outages, another plus over anything that runs on electricity.

I'm very surprised at some of the reviews...however, I do not use this bottle to keep warm so I WOULD NEVER put boiling water in it..I can't imagine anyone taking such a great risk of severe burns.
I use this product theraputically for abdominal bloating and/or pain. As others have stated, I like the two different sides of the bottle applying the "rough" less hot side in the beginning right over a polo shirt then as it cools use the "smooth" warmer side as it is too hot in the first hour or two but perfect for the next hour or two. I use hot tap water probably about 110 degrees and it is a fantastic addition to my household medical kit as well as take along on vacations.
Recommended strongly for patients with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome".
Made in Germany and not inexpensive but for me well worth the cost as the craftsmanship is better than the rubber types made elsewhere and with thusly last longer.
VERY HAPPY with this product although a bit pricy but will buy another two for backup!

I wanted something to warm my bed before I sleep at nights and I purchased this. Straight off, I can compliment the awesome build quality and the robust cap. There are absolutely no leaks whatsoever. The outer is pretty sturdy and it doesn't scald you when you pour the water. However, that said, it takes quite a while for the radiant heat to warm its environment. I find the region immediately around the bottle to be pretty warm, but the not all the area under the mattress. I place the bottle about an hour before sleeping. But, once I am under the sheets, it feels nice to rest my foot on it and soak up the heat. Pouring hot water from the faucet does not work AT ALL! It feels lukewarm at best. I have to use almost-boiling water for good results. So, yeah, there is some running cost in using it - the cost of gas/electricity to heat your water.Customer Review: Really nifty bottle...

I read a review on this bottle and although I would have purchased it anyway, it was helpful. Like that reviewer, I also like being able to see through it to see if it's truly empty/dry before putting it away after use. It is definitely more comfortable on the skin than my last bottle. I'm not quite sure if it keeps the water hot as long as the old, traditional bottles - I'd have to use it more to compare. The only reason I didn't give it the full 5 stars is because the hole on the bottom end is pretty small, making it slightly more difficult to hang it upside down on a hook to dry out.
