When I first got the scale, I put the battery in just like they said and nothing happened. I tried doing all sorts of different things (shaking it, picking it up, turning it upright) to get it to turn on, but it refused. Eventually, I gave up and figured I would figure it out later. The following week I read the reviews to see if anyone had figured out how to fix the problem. People reported you had to pick it up and put it down again to turn it on. So I picked it up and set it gently onto the floor. Nothing happened. Then I picked it up and placed it not so gently on the floor and it turned on! Now, before I use it, I just tip the scale lightly with my toes and let it drop back down. I guess it needs to bump the floor in order to "wake up".

Some other reviews said the readings were inaccurate, but mine seems very accurate. I tested it over and over again (sometimes just me, sometimes me with a cat, sometimes me with a different cat) and each time it reported the correct weight.

It is really pretty. And all in all, I'm relatively happy with it. But I might not recommend it to a friend because I'm not sure just yet whether it'll be reliable in the long run. The lack of a safety "turn on" button makes me wonder if one day I'll bump it, and it just won't turn on.

you have to have it at warm temp to use and on a flat surface and always in the same place, if u move to another room of house you get a different reading eveytime, also you have to take battery out and flip it, the directions dont tell u this but i figured it out after an hour, it looks pretty but its not practical

What a piece of garbage. You have to remain perfectly still to get a reading, which usually means multiple tries, then when you get a reading it is in inaccurate. I just did 5 readings and the highest and lowest reading differed 27 pounds. On top of that the readout is difficult to read unless the angle is just right I have to pick it up to see it, which is good because to get it to turn on you have to lift it up and set it down, but be careful when you step on it because sometimes it will just shut off soon as you touch it. But hey at least is looks nice.

Will not work well on carpet, if your hardwood or tile floors are not perfectly flat it will not work well. It must be on a 100% flat surface. you will have to pick the scale up and replace it on the floor to get it to wake up. sometimes having to step on and off several time to get a reading. don't waste your time and money on this one.
