Having worked in the science industry for a spell,(cosmetic and food ingredient sales) I stopped trusting most supplements years ago when I learned they aren't regulated by the FDA (it's too broad for them to do so but changes are expected in the future) so they can make claims of everything from fat loss to "male enhancement".
So to give me a supplement for testing? It's a huge risk. For example, at the time I received these I also got a "fat burner and energy booster" from another company to review, which I posted yesterday, and unearthed that the company says itself that it doesn't burn fat and it just has tons of caffeine for energy.
So...that said...I didn't expect to like these going in, but I am always interested in what's new so I thought what the heck...
I had swollen glands a couple days ago so, feeling I was about to be out sick, it was time to be a guinea pig.
The first thing I can tell you is one pill was equal to an expensive colon cleanse...I won't go into that in detail other than to say it cleansed my body enough that I lost a half pound the next day. That sounds like complete B.S., I know. But you can read my other reviews enough to know I don't build up products, especially supplements and, as a weight loss coach, I won't make a statement like that lightly. Did I need something to "promote regularity"? No,I don't. I'm very healthy...so I was surprised at the colon cleansing properties. Will it "promote regularity" as claimed? I am pretty darn sure it will even boost it if you don't need it to in it's cleanse of the colon and intestines by my experience.
So then I checked the website, as I always do before a review. I want the skinny. I want the small print. Very good to find this comes from a US manufacturer that makes yogurt and probiotic ingredients for companies. With lots of placebos and herbs out there making claims on bottles that are unrelated to what they are saying they do...good first step. Web also had a comparison of what's different in these in that they are coataed ("enteric coated") to bypass digestion in stomach acid in order to work in intestines and colon so they don't break down in digestion like yogurt and other pills might. Apparently such good bacteria replenish intestinal flora and coat intestinal walls with the good healthy bacteria they need. They claim 80% of immunity is in the intestines (I checked this figure. It was true. Who knew?) so this was my test of boosting my immunity via it's claims.
Did I get sick like the cold I thought I was coming down with 2 days ago? No. Did this cure it? Who knows. It's a 50/50 chance and I can't say. But it's been 2 days and my glands are no longer swollen so I win either way.
Final test was I looked up the ingredients. It says the total dosage in a pill is 400 mg. It says on the label that 300 of those milligrams are FOS. Had no idea what that was so this is copied straight from Wikipedia:
"FOS has been a popular dietary supplement in Japan for many years, even before 1990, when the Japanese government installed a "Functionalized Food Study Committee" of 22 experts to start to regulate "special nutrition foods or functional foods" that contain the categories of fortified foods (e.g., vitamin-fortified wheat flour), [3]and is now becoming increasingly popular in Western cultures for its prebiotic effects. FOS serves as a substrate for microflora in the large intestine, increasing the overall gastrointestinal tract (GI Tract) health. It has also been touted as a supplement for preventing yeast infections.
Several studies have found that FOS and inulin promote calcium absorption in both the animal and human gut.[4][5] The intestinal microflora in the lower gut can ferment FOS, which results in a reduced pH. All inulin-type prebiotics, including FOS, are generally thought to stimulate the growth of Bifidobacteria species. Bifidobacteria are considered as "Friendly" bacteria"

The rest of the pill (100 mg)is made up of the bacterial culture. The pills note that this is 13 billion living cells and they list 10 times of "friendly" and "healthy" bacteria. I looked up those listed and it appears that there are no "fillers" or inert ingredients...they are the real deal.
Negatives: Though it's not a negative for me, it may be for you if you avoid soy or are vegan. The warning on the label says it contains soy and dairy products so know that going in.
It does NOT contain, according to the label: yeast, corn, wheat, salt, citrus, fish, preservatives, artificial colors or flavors...so if you avoid those, you are good.
Conclusion: I can typically sniff out a fake supplement in record time. And there are, unfortunately, lots. This looks to be full of all it claims it contains and, hence, apparently has the expected results. It suggests it is especially good to use after taking antibiotics since those strip your intestines of the good bacteria as well which we need to optimum health.
Does it really help boost immune system? I'll have to try it a few more times when I'm feeling unwell to really be able to say for sure.
Does it aid digestion and promote regularity? I'd be willing to bet that's a given.
