My favorite halogen desk lamp purchased in 1993 finally petered out, and I fretted over finding a good replacement. I work from home, and spend at least twelve hours a day at my desk in a windowless office. Most of the lamps at my local store either looked goofy or were way too big for my desk, and I worried that the light output I viewed when in the store wouldn't correlate to what I'd need at my desk. On a whim, I bought this lamp, and have been happy with it so far. The light is very flicker-free and natural, and I have no eyestrain problems with it. There's no single bright spot, probably because of the built-in diffuser, and it doesn't emit any weird noise or interference like a lot of fluorescents do. My only minor complaint is that the base does take up a bit of footprint on my desk - it would be nifty if it included some sort of pencil holder or change tray or something, but maybe I'll duct tape some sort of aftermarket cupholder on there. Overall though, it was great for the price and I really do like it.
