I ordered this lamp as a gift for my son and his girlfriend, when I noticed that she was curled up on the couch reading in the dark while he watched TV or played video games. I have one myself that I have owned for many years that I just love. They are also very happy with the one I got for them. It shines enough light in a directed area that she can see well to read, without flooding the entire room. They like the full spectrum light, which is not as harsh as that of incandescent or other fluorescent lights. They both like the little shelf that comes with this model, handy for setting a book down on when taking a break from reading. I was concerned that it might not be quite enough light, but it is fine for them. For someone that wants or needs more light, the model with the larger watt bulb would be recommended.
