I'm 8 months pregnant and I've been really sick with a cold type of virus for the last 6 days. Nights were very difficult for me so yesterday I broke down and bought this humidifier. I can't believe how much it helped me breath last night, and not only that but I know that it will help my baby when she gets sick. Already I'm trying to talk my family into getting one for their house. The noise is actually quite pleasent. As far as filters are concerned my local Walmart had a very heavy supply along with all of the extras. The only reason it got four stars (should be 4 3/4 stars) is because it doesn't take the liquid medication. This Vicks humidifier really does what it is intended for, and more - it even cools the room (I have a small room, however). Ever since I used this, my nose have not dried and have slept well. I have only one problem with it, it is a bit noisier than my previous humidifiers, hence the 4 stars, instead of 5.Customer Review: Didn't notice any difference in the moisture level in my kids room even after running all day.

I bought this and plugged it in and NO vapor came out at all. Then I read further and thought it may be an evaporative humidifier (although it didn't say so on the box or anywhere else but the pamphlet). But apprently that means there is no mist that you can see visibly but the water goes through the filter and emits moist air and the only way you know it is working is when the water level goes down and the room feels moister. Well I had it on all day and the water level went down like an 18th of an inch if that and the noise on the lowest setting was so loud we had to shut it off at night when we needed it most. Didn't notice any difference in the moisture level in my kids room even after running all day. MAybe mine was defective but I won't try it again.Customer Review: Sadly...

I bought this and hoped to use it the same night because my daughter had a cold and my last humidifier broke down literally the day before she came down with this cold. SO I unwrapped it and followed all the instructions and plugged it in and nothing but LOUD noise came out, even on the lowest setting. No mist at all. Then I read the pamphlet and apparently, even though it didn't state so on the box, it was an evaporative humidifier which meant I wasn't going to see any mist because the water passes through the filter and then moist air, not water, is blown out the vent. SO the only way to tell if it iss working is to watch to see if the water level goes down. I let it run all day and when I checked again, the water level moved about an 8th of an inch and we had to shut if off at night because it was so loud we couldn't sleep. Sadly, that is when we needed it most but it hardly mattered. It did not work at all. I felt no difference in the room whatsoever even with it running all day. I started getting sick, and for the first time since grade school had a bloody nose. That coupled with getting dry mouthed and dry skin and chapped lips every morning made me consider a humidifer.
When I went to the store I wanted a cool mist one, as cool mist would be nice in my room that is hot and dry during the winter. I expecte a misting machine, this thing doesnt mist, but I'm happy it doesn't after reading all the review of people with soggy carpets because of their misters...
Since having this I haven't felt as dry in the morning which is nice, I breathe easier and started feeling better. It a little louder than some but if you dont like the noise, turn down the speed to lower at night, I personally like some background noise and keep it on high.
The water last for a long time in these ones that use these wicks. There is only one downfall, mine is about a month old and the filter is getting pretty nasty already, although I admit my room is a dusty place and I've been using tap water. Apparently if you use those cheap 1 gallon Distilled waters the filter wont get all dirty or smelly as easily, as distilled water is pure, and tap water well....no matter what you think isn't ;).
PRO: Humidifies room with few refills and doesn't soak room.
CONS: The filter gets moldy/dirty pretty quick.
Hopefully this is usefull, I'm happy with it and I'm sure you'd be.
