bought this last year. Tried it on a sick coughing kid. Never had to refil the tank. Tried it again last night. Water level didn't drop at all after running it for 15 hours. Now I realize why I never filled the tank last time. It doesn't put out any water.

I bought this yesterday since my son has a cold and the Dr suggested a cool mist humidifier. I bought this one thinking that anything with a 3 yr warrantee MUST be good. My husband filled it up (according to directions) and when he turned the unit on, it immediately flooded the carpet. Nice. Customer Review: Speaking of the wicking filter...

On first page #6 reads Do not operate without water. Turn off unit when tank is empty.
But under "Weekly Maintenance" #1 says to empty the tank of water. #2 Turn switch to on and operate the humidifier until the wicking filter is dry. Did it just not say that we shouldn't operate without water??
Speaking of the wicking filter, everyday you should empty the tank and tray of water so it doesn't build up mold. What about the filter? it sits wet everyday and never drys out...doesn't this create mold also?
All in all it is easy to take care of and clean and beats the old misting systems that leave white soot everywhere.

Ask any doctor and they'll tell you that the best way to clear stuffy noses and to breathe well at night is to run a cool mist humidifier in order to maintain a moderate level of moisture in the air. The Vicks 1.2 gallon cool mist humidifier does this quite adequately and has helped our family breathe easier this cold and flu season. The tank holds enough water to easily humidify a room for at least three nights. The low speed is extremely quiet and works best in a small to medium size room. The high speed is quite noisy and also expells substantially more humidity, which may be too much unless the room is quite sizeable. My concern about the high speed is that the room could become too moist and thus become a breeding ground for mold. Hence my deduction of one star- the humidifier would be perfect if there was a medium speed. Still, the Vicks model is very economical, has a decent reputation as a brand, and is easy to use. I highly recommend that all parents keep one or more on hand to help their children breathe better, particularly in the winter when the air tends to be drier and the heater is running. Additionally, every expectant parent should register for one. This is definitely a product that you will use again and again- for the whole family.Customer Review: I purchased this humidifier to combat the dry air in the bedroom.

I purchased this humidifier to combat the dry air in the bedroom. I read all the directions, filled it up and turned it on. The water gushed out of the bottom and soaked the carpet. Don't buy this!
