This is our 2nd winter up north and we have suffered with dry, itchy skin long enough. We were told by many people to get a humidifier because it would help with our dry skin. We didn't want to spend a lot of money because we weren't sure how a humidifier would help, so after much shopping around we came across the Vicks Cool Mist Humidifier.
After the first night of running the humidifier we could really tell a difference in the improvement of our dry skin. My husband also made the observation that he slept better and didn't wake up dry or thirsty.
Yes, the unit is a little noisy but nothing that is disturbing to your sleep. I'm especially sensitive to noises when I sleep and I've noticed that I actually sleep better and rarely wake up during the night since using it.
The unit is very easy to clean but I have noticed that our filter is getting quite dirty after using it for 3 weeks. The directions say to change the filter every 2 months, plus or minus, depending on the hardness of your water and amount of usage. We run our unit 24 hours a day, 7 days a week so I can imagine we will be replacing ours more frequently. On the plus side of it all, I have noticed there is less dust in our bedroom because the air is being filtered through the system.
I would definitely recommend buying this, especially if you suffer from dry skin!

I have purchased and thrown away at least 3 other humidifier's prior to this one. I really like this one. The maintenance is so much easier and so far no scaly build-up like I had with the others. I love that the basin tray can go in the dishwasher. I put the filter in the sun to dry out weekly. I am very pleased with this item and haven't experienced any of the problems others have mentioned. Very happy!!
