Customer Reviews of Viva Big Roll White Paper Towel, 70-Count Rolls (Pack of 24)Customer Review: Formerly a great product Summary: 1 Stars
I used these towels for many years and even drove to stores miles away to get them (we live in a rural area and can't get all products nearby). We averaged 6 rolls a week in my family, and used them for everything. I even used them to clean makeup off my face, as they were softer than cotton balls, and we used vast amounts of them during hay fever season to capture our vigorous sneezes.
Over the last five years or so, the quality of Viva towels has dropped drastically. The decline in quality has been so great that there's no way a regular user of these towels could have failed to notice. They've become less absorbent and (even worse) more scratchy each time the manufacturer has tinkered with them. They used to be soft enough to use on a baby's skin; now they're scratchy as sandpaper. They ARE expensive, compared to other paper towels, and the makers should have realized that there comes a point of no return, where the consumer finds the quality has declined too much to justify the price. I wouldn't buy them now even if they were cheap. We used to average about a dozen rolls a week at my workplace, but they have switched to another brand as well - not because of the price, but because of the poor quality. The manufacturer should wake up while they still have a few customers left, but I don't expect that will happen. Cheapening is the name of the game, and those who want quality can only express their displeasure by refusing to buy.
Customer Review: Not the superior product they used to be Summary: 1 Stars
VIVA PAPER TOWELS aren't the paper towels they were even five years go. Kimberly-Clark has steadily degraded the quality substantially (but not the price, natch) over the last several years. These towels used to be so plush and soft, they felt like t-shirt material. The latest batch I purchased, which is noticeably different from the previous one, actually feels like sandpaper. Very fine sandpaper, but sandpaper nonetheless. Also, they used to be so strong. Now, I cannot tear one off the roll without ripping it up unless I use both hands, hold the roll, and tear very carefully.
The worst part? They've become virtually useless. I used to be able to use them to dry dishes. Now they just move the water around. They're barely absorbent.
I used to think VIVA PAPER TOWELS were THE premium paper towel on the market. Now, I honestly wouldn't buy them if they were the only paper towel available. They are that inferior. Another quality Kimberly-Clark product bites the dust.
Customer Review: Not what they used to be Summary: 1 Stars
Viva paper towels used to be THE best on the market. Earlier this year we had purchased a batch that were not up to the usual quality: scratchy, less absorbent, and hard to tear off. I usually order them online and figured that I must have made an error and selected the wrong product. But, it turns out it was not a mistake - Viva "Big Roll" paper towels are no longer the great product that I had grown used to. The manufacturer has clearly chosen to replace them with a lower quality product. Beware - this product is not worth the price being asked.
