Customer Review: Works Great While It Works

I've had this unit for several years and up until this week it has worked great. Good and easily adjustable pressure, easy to clean and easy to use. I never found the extra attachments very useful as I just use the water pick if I have something under the gum-line that I can't otherwise get to. This means often going weeks or months without use.
The last time I used it was probably several months ago and all was well. I needed it this week and it started pouring water from inside the handle. I tried several times to remove and re-seat the tip to no avail. The pressure of course dropped to a useless level even at the highest setting. All increasing the pressure setting does is increase the amount of water pouring from the handle.
I don't remember what my original purchase price was but I don't think $35 is too bad of a deal. If I paid the listed retail of $50, I feel like it should have certainly lasted longer. I wouldn't call it a piece of junk as others have because it works great when it works. Its apparently short service life does leave much to be desired though.

I concur with most reviewers that the waterpik works great when it works. But it is not very durable. It need to be replaced about every 2 years when the hose cracks where it connects to the handle.
I just received my 3rd waterpik. The 1st one worked great for 2 years then the hose cracked. The 2nd one had a weak motor, so we used the 2nd one's hose on the 1st one. The hose cracked again after 2 years. The motor on the 1st one lasted about 3 years. I just got the 3rd one and I expect it the same.
Waterpik really need to redesign the host/handle and reenforce the host where it connects to the handle, so that it last longer. This won't increase the cost much, but is more environmental friendly and the right thing to do!
Also I found a hose/handle replacement kit in waterpik web site for $9 + $4 shipping. I may try that the next time. I think that it is available in Amazon Market Place as well.

The strength (power?) is controlled by a slider on the handle sucks compared to the old (when I was a kid) way it used to be controlled by a knob on the unit.
The slider on the handle is
a: very easy to bump it up from 2 to 6 and powerwash a gouge in your mouth
b: inaccurate. It should go 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 but the one on mine is more like 1, 2, 5, 5, 5, 6
Otherwise, it does what it says. I have yet to be back to the dentist to see if it's helping though
I asked a few dentists for advise - Unless told otherwise, don't use this every day. You can do damage to your gums. Also, it's not a substitute for regular flossing. It's better at getting below the gumline, but doesn't do as well above it.

This is my first attempt at any type of water irrigation device, but I'm not thrilled. Its noisy, certainly couldn't use it if someone was asleep in the house. Its messy, shoots water everywhere, I am hoping that with experience will come finesse!
It does what it is designed to do, but you have to be very careful about the setting, it can be strong enough to make tender gums bleed a bit. This is my first impression with it, I'll add more if I change my mind.

The way Amazon jump by placing the order and sending an email, without showing confirmation page with all the details and a submit button bathers me. When I ordered this item I selected 9 b days, but when it shows the order it started the counting 5 bd later and it was delivered even later.
Although the product is great and the price is good, but I will go to Amazon more if I see all the terms (price, tax and delivery date) before I submit.
