Customer Review: Effective for elderly person with memory loss

A speech therapist recommended this product to me, to assist my elderly mother in remembering daily tasks. I am very glad I bought it.
My mom, who has moderate Alzheimer's, lives independently but I visit her daily. She enjoys participating in activities at the facility where she lives, but she typically forgets to leave her apartment to go. I purchased this product as a tool for helping Mom remember her schedule. Each day during my visit, I set the alarms for the next 24 hours, including a few that recur daily. The voice-recording option allows me to refer specifically to the reason for the alarm, such as: "Hi Mom, it's 12:45 and time to leave for a music performance at 1 p.m."
The only glitch we've had in using the alarm Mom's ability to turn it off. This is a minor issue because Mom does successfully turn it off. But when she presses the red "alarm acknowledged" button, a voice recording continues: "Alarm Acknowledged. The next alarm is alarm number 4 at two forty-five p.m." This leads Mom to wildly start punching other buttons to make the alarm shut up, and these other buttons in turn prompt other recordings, such as the current time. She hates this, and it's really confusing to her, and I see her point.
But despite this annoyance, this product has been tremendously helpful in improving my mom's quality of life. She attends about 80 percent of her activities, whereas her average had been about 50 percent of the activities before we began using this alarm.
I would suggest this product for anyone helping a dementia patient to remember activities or medications, but I would also suggest you start using it before the person actually needs it, so that the user can become accustomed to it and incorporate into his or her routine without frustration, before a greater level of confusion affects its efficacy.
