I am someone who has suffered many GI difficulties over the years. The heartburn was so bad that it turned to reflux and then to Baretts Esophagus which is something you don't want to have. After taking Prilosec (or generic Omeprazole which is OTC and the same thing) for a long time, my last test indicated things were worse, not better. My Gastro Dr. recommended Align and Zegerid OTC. I have included both of these items into my routine, taking both first thing in the morning and another Zegrid late afternoon. I pay no attention to 1 hr before meals, etc... I had also been making mental notes on what foods were causing my heartburn, etc... In combination with the Zegrid, some changes to what I am eating and when I eat, I feel fantastic!!! NOTE: For anyone taking this medication or is thinking about it, go for it but you need to be responsible. This is not a magic pill so you will need to make some dietary changes. This is also not like taking an aspirin for a headache. Taking it whenever you feel like will not solve your problem. This drug is only meant for a 2 week period and not long term so if you can't get a thumbs up from a Dr. for long term use, then do what you will. For me, I am not concerned about the 2x per day. I am NOT a Physician and am merely sharing my experience. I hope this helps.
