Customer Review: Relief for a lifetime congestion sufferer

Ever since I was a child I've had problems with my nose. I was about 11 when I first experienced the "rebound syndrome" from Vicks' nasal spray and quit the stuff for several years. Eventually I experimented with a spray here and there but never cared for them, for one reason or other. Then I had "gestational allergies" which basically amounted to feeling and sounding like I had a head cold for months without relief. Once the baby was weaned I was able to take normal OTC medications again but found that even the strongest (that are now found behind the counter) didn't last very long or clear me up as fast or as thoroughly as I would have liked. I was afraid to try things like Afrin due to the "rebound syndrome". Then Zicam came out and a co-worker of mine swore by it.
I tried Extreme Congestion Relief and was amazed by several things about it, detailed below.
1. It was more gel-like than previous sprays I'd used years before. This stuff went up and stayed up with no messy dripping or running down the back of my throat.
2. The smell was virtually non-existent. Most sprays - even prescription - have a floral or menthol smell, something I've never liked. Not Zicam Extreme Congestion Relief. Some of Zicam's other products have a smell but this one is mostly free of it.
3. Works fast, works thorough. One of my problems is waking in the night with a stuffed-up nose. If I can't breathe through my nose, I can't sleep. On the rare occasions that happens now, I can take a quick dose of Zicam and a few minutes later blow my nose and go back to sleep. What used to be a process of decongestion that would easily take over an hour (robbing me of sleep) now takes about as long as it would take me to use the bathroom.
4. No "rebound syndrome". Not for me, anyway. I use a dose on heavy allergy days, during bad sinus infections and when head colds get too vicious and taking Nyquil isn't an option. I do feel it necessary to mention, though, that my sinus issues are not typical - I'm an asthmatic and have congenital problems with my sinus cavities. I've got a prescription steroid spray I have to take daily and I also take Claritin daily. I'm not sure what effect, if any, this might have on "rebound syndrome".
When I went to the doctor after a bout of using Afrin (at another dr's suggestion) for a few days and was told to throw it out because the blood vessels in my nasal passages were extremely swollen. I have had several nasal exams before and since using only Zicam, saline spray, saline gel and my prescription and never had a report that my capillaries were swollen. Whatever's in Zicam, it does NOT have the same physical effect on my nasal passages that Afrin and 4-Way do.
In summary, I think this is a great product and even a blessing for someone with a nose as bad as mine.
