Customer Reviews of gDiapers Biodegradable Diapers Refills, Medium/Large, 32 Count Bags (Pack of 4)

Customer Review: Mom Tested, Baby Approved
Summary: 5 Stars

We started our little one on Gdiapers because we wanted less environmental waste - takes 500 years for a disposable diaper to break down while this only takes 150 days - and something that was more natural.

Pricing: With Amazon's subscribe and save, 15% off however, they were running a promo with 30% off at which time I bulked up. I purchased three cases at a time very quickly and have about a 8 month stock pile saved up. At 30% off it is about the same cost of a disposable diaper. Also, because the inserts are one size (M/L 13-36 lbs) you can stock up without worrying that your little one will out grow them like disposable diapers.

Size: We started out our little one on the medium Gs at 11.5 lbs. They are recommended to start at 13 lbs, however we had no problems starting earlier. We didn't invest in the small Gs because I knew she would grow out of them quickly so we used disposables (7th generation) for about 2 months. Yes she looked like she was wearing a ginormous diaper but that faded quickly as she grew quickly. Also, I only purchased 4 medium diapers and 4 large diapers and additional 12 plastic liners - Amazon doesn't sell the liners but you can and should buy them directly from the G diaper website. This has proven a sufficient amount.

Wash: Poop should not get on the G cloth part. If it is, you don't have the diaper on right. I didn't watch the videos but rather used common sense and made sure that the inner liner was very snug against her. We only had one blow out so far. I have thrown the inner plastic liner and cloth part in the washer and had no problems. Just make sure you hang dry so that they don't wear out quickly. You don't need to wash the cloth part after every changing, only if it gets poop or pee on it. This prevents the velcro from wearing out quickly. Inner plastic liners may need to be changed and washed more often.

Disposal: We don't compost the diapers because maintaining our little one and working full time has proven enough. So I don't know much about the composty-ness of the G. We did purchase a Diaper Dekor (a diaper pail) and it does have plastic biodegradble bag. Also available through Amazon. So the bag and the diapers should break down rather quickly.

Diaper Rash: Our little one has had no diaper rash from these diapers. The diapers don't have harsh chemicals like other diapers.

Danger: I'm a mom who lives on the edge - i.e. doesn't put anything under baby when changing her and the G diaper has saved me on occasion. The inner liner will hold pee so I can clean up the mess quickly without pee going everywhere. Also, since my baby still is small, I put the diaper on backwards. The tabs face me rather than put behind her, this just makes changes easier.

Choice: We wanted our baby to have minimal impact on the environment so invested in these diapers. We also invest in her food and only buy organic formula. We purchased many other baby products second hand, swing $10, stroller $3, bassinet $10, etc. (yes good quality and clean) So it can be done on a budget and you don't need to make gobs of money to afford these diapers. These diapers are great, easy to use and minimally impact the environment.

Customer Review: The Best
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm a Mom of five children ages 14 to 1. I have a lot of diapering experience and these G Dipes are really making me feel ready for number six.

Diaper History - After bumbling around with our first, we settled on Mother Ease One Size with Snap Covers and used a set of those for our first three children (along with some disposables at times). Health issues with number four led to her being in disposables and I sold my Mother Ease diapers. I did major research on diapers for number five and started out with a few Fuzzi Bunz (leaked at the legs) and a huge set of Bum Genius. They were okay, but leaked #2 up the back too easily. They also became leaky after about six months with careful washing. At that time, I decided to go back to our standby, Motherease, as I do not like leaks at all. They work as well as they always have, but I found that clothing is fitting more trim these days and with our daughter's long torso, the bulk of the cloth diaper wasn't working. We ended up using disposables for about five months when we happened upon G Diapers at Babies R Us. I previously saw them at the health food store, but the size wasn't right and when I researched them on line I wasn't sure of the appeal. After seeing them up close, we decided to try them. We're hooked.

Pros:
Convenience
Health
Environmental Responsibility
Lack of Diaper Rash (dots my daughter had for the last while cleared up in two days)
Trim Fit for clothing
Excellent Leak Protection (even with diarrhea, so I'm assuming they would work well for a breastfed newborn as well)
Easy to Use (not complicated for Dad who doesn't love dipes like Mom - and he loves these too)
Stretchy cover is easy to put on
Love velcro on the side back to keep baby's tummy free from chaffing and hands away
Cute
Feel Like Cloth
Disposable and Cloth Options for Various Seasons of Life
B.M. can easily be put in the toilet whether you flush or not
Covers stay clean with the wonderful snap in liner (ingenious!)
No stuffing of pocket diapers

Possible Cons:
I left my daughter in the diaper until she leaked. She leaked at 4 1/2 hours. This should be fine for day and would require doubling at night if baby is nursing. Store brand disposables do last longer, although most parents probably (hopefully?) change diapers more frequently.

They cost a bit more, but they probably more accurately reflect true cost taking environmental and health considerations into consideration.

Customer Review: The Hybrid Diaper for the Hybrid Family
Summary: 5 Stars

My wife and I were looking for a diapering solution that was eco-friendly but weren't ready to make the commitment to go all-cloth with a system like Bum Genius, especially once we realized our new baby was peeing something like 12 times day or more. We used disposables for the first month and then found a deal on the gDiaper starter kit at another retailer, so we thought we'd give it a try.

To make a long story short, we love the gDiapers. Benefits:

* no diaper rash
* they stay put
* very little leakage
* they're as "green" as you want them to be

We primarily use the disposable inserts with our G's and while you can flush them in the toilet, we just throw them away. At least these inserts break down in the landfill unlike regular diapers. What can I say: we drive a Prius and use gDaipers, we love hybrid systems.

Hint: we found the "magic number" of pants and inserts to be 6 pants and 12 inserts to keep us from having to do too much laundry but always having a diaper when we needed it.

As far as Amazon goes, I HIGHLY recommend using the subscription delivery service. I used to order a carton from Walmart for home delivery but would often end up forgetting to reorder at the right time, which would make a trip to Babies"R"Us for gRefills or to the supermarket for disposables necessary. Signing up with the subscription delivery is not only convenient, but the discounts make the price better than any other retailer.

Customer Review: g's are wonderful no diaper rash!! not that much more$$
Summary: 5 Stars

We use gDiapers, we love them! We have never had diaper rash, except the few times we have run out of inserts and have resorted to disposables--in one night we had a rash beginning with 'sposies! There is a learning curve to avoid leaks, but leaks and blow outs happen in disposables as well! Cutest diaper I have ever seen! Some cloth diapers are cute too, but these are my favorite!
In regards to the previous reviewer's comments on price, while they are more expensive than other disposables it's not that much. I did the math, according to Amazon's prices at the time of writing this, g's (med/lg) cost 36c per insert (if you 'subscribe and save', case of 128), Seventh Generation's are 35c per diaper(case of 120 stage 3), pampers cruisers are 25c per diaper (case of 160 size 3). SO...if you are using seventh gen, i guess the price really isn't an issue anymore now that Amazon has g's with subscribe and save savings!
At 10cents per diaper at the *average* 6 diaper changes per day for 30 days, that is only $18 a month...i will skip out on ordering pizza Once a Month in order to pay for our g's and feel good knowing Poop from our daughter is not heading into the landfill to pollute the groundwater. Icky! And come to think of it, I would probably be paying a good deal of that extra cash to treat her diaper rash every day if we were in disposables... guess I'll order that pizza anyway!
Way cuter than sposies and not that much more $ day to day!

Customer Review: Love these
Summary: 5 Stars

We like gdiapers a lot. We use these disposable inserts as well as some washable cloth inserts available elsewhere. We use them abou 70% of the time with 7th Generation as our backup. We also some regular cloth.

*** No plastic and no irritation. The are flushable or compostable. NO WASTE and NO LANDFILL.
*** It is remarkable how well the liner contains poop for our twice a day toddler. Yes, the liner generally needs to be washed after a poop but we generally do that quickly in the sink. The outer shell rarely needs washing after a poop. We wash maybe once a week, mostly for theoritical hygenie reasons, not because they look dirty or stinky.
*** We have no problems flushing in our 70s era apartment building. Put the contents in the toilet and flush, just as it leaves the toilet add the cover. It almost always works in one flush. If not, the cover will stay until the next use. We'll be composting them later this year.
*** We also use some washable liners. More info on the yahoo group.
*** I like how we seem to use less water as a result of the genius liners system.

Yes, they take some getting used to. I can see how they aren't for everyone. But they work very well for our family. Our goal is to use 4-5 a day in place of disposables. That is about a ton over the life of each child!
